I am working on a project where I am using the BT2S and BT2S-M to connect two arduinos via bluetooth to implement home automation tasks. I would like to expand this setup into a bluetooth piconet with multiple BT2S devices connected to the BT2S-M. Do these devices support doing this?
In a related question, is it possible to connect to the BT2S-M with my smartphone (iPhone) to send commands while it is connected to the BT2S?
I’ve had great experiences ordering from you guys, thanks!
I have been meaning to write an article that details the process of creating various network styles and hybridizations using the Virtuabotix BT2S Master and slaves, but I can give you a couple suggestions real quick to help you decide how to approach the problem.
First of all you cannot connect to a Virtuabotix BT2S Master with a Master device (like a phone or PC), but you could use the Versalino Nano which has two com ports (or just direct wire to a software serial on the pins of your choosing) to put a slave and a master on your main controller, and then have each room or group of controls have a master and slave combo to allow for a wireless serial network.
The way that would work would be that you would pass commands from one unit to another until the desired target was reached and was able to perform the desired task. In this way you could have a hybrid network of hard wired and wireless controllers that shared command and data packets to make your house do all sorts of things from a central controller, or an Arduino/Versalino that was directly connected to the PC/Phone.
Even easier you could use the Versalino FTDI to get a Versalino COM port directly to a USB port and put a Virtuabotix BT2S Master on it to start the whole chain. I am sure someone who was better at webserver and C#/Java integration than me could even make a way to control everything from a web page served on your local network by that PC (so you could access it from other computers/phones/tablets in your home).
Hope that helps, and I look forward to working with you as you develop your system.
