    Nice Kit of Parts

This little kit of parts helped me take the next step. I’ve worked a few projects now without the traditional UNO board. It is kinda fun playing at this level and it’s getting me ready for the next step of maybe programming the ATmega328 without Arduino. Maybe.

This kit comes with the older Duemilanove boot loader and this is fine. I’ve swapped this chip and a chip from an UNO Rev 3 and Rev 2 in and out with no problems. Just remember to select the correct board in the IDE.

The other issue I had was getting a program to load. I tried my best with XBee Series 1 but have not had luck yet. Any clues? I went to the Sparkfun Breakout Board for FT232RL USB to Serial (BOB-00718) and had to play a bit with DTR and reset (a little cap in between) to finally get programs to load onto the breadboarded chip. Since then, it’s been working perfectly.

Thank you so much for the review! We put up a couple Bareduino specific programming guides on our website. We so far have included how to program with another Arduino, and how to program with the official Arduino Serial Light programmer.

If there is anything else you think would be nice to have be sure to let us know so we can make even more guides.

      Thanks again!

Good kit but read the product overview carefully

The kit comes as described in the product overview, but it was less than I expected.

I was fooled by the photo showing a small breadboard and the product title said “… breadboard microcontroller”. Without reading the details of the product overview, I purchased believing that this came with everything in the photograph.

One detail missing is that the bootloader is the Duemilanove version. This is not the current Uno version I was expecting. The listing doesn’t say which bootloader would be installed.

For me the minor parts were not important. I thought the combination of the chip and breadboard was a good price. Without the breadboard, I would have pieced together my own hardware.

If you do not have the minor parts, eg. crystal, caps, and resistors, then you may enjoy this kit. I gave it five stars because the kit did come as described. You just can’t use the picture alone like I did.

Thank you so much for the feedback! We reviewed the posting based on your feedback and modified the wording to make it more clear. I am sorry for any confusion, and I hope that the new title helps to clear things up.

In addition we have added the Bootloader type to the feature list. Thank you again, and be sure to let us know if you have any problems whatsoever!

      Respectfully,
      Joseph Dattilo

    Great bare naked part!

This is the bare minimum needed to have a working arduino. Great packaging, great instructions! The Virtuabotix guys have a great company and I’ll give them as much business as I can afford!

    Just what I needed

Perfect for all of your small hobby projects. I used mine for an LED cube I made. What will you build?

    Came with Uno
I don’t know if it was just a mistake or if they’ve changed the product, but mine came with the Uno bootloader.

Other than that, it was as expected. Well packaged and decent quality parts. The capacitors have unusually long legs, which makes them a lot easier to use on a breadboard than the tiny ones I’m used to working with. If you’re about to start your first project with a standalone atmega, this is a great way to get your feet wet! Takes just a few minutes to assemble, and if you have an Arduino laying around you can drop the chip in that temporarily to easily burn whatever bootloader version you want using the Arduino software. Overall I’m very satisfied. A great product

    great

Just the perfect choice for implementation after design where you just need to run the basic program with out all the bells and whistles.

    Works great – as advertised!

If you are a budding Arduino enthusiast, or just looking to get a project going without investing in a full Arduino board, then this is for you. There are a few things worth mentioning before you buy this: 1) You must provide your own source of power. Your source must be a regulated +5v. How do you plan to provide this source of power? A 9v battery will kill it. A battery pack with 3AA will not be sufficient. For a couple dollars more, you may want to buy the version that comes with the LM7805 regulator which can handle up to 30v input. I like to hack those plug-in LED night lights from the dollar store to get 5vdc from an outlet.
    2) How do you intend to upload your code? I used my Duemilanove board with jumpers to program this chip in-circuit. If you do not own an Arduino device, you will need a USB-FTDI adapter to accomplish this with your new toy.
    3) The product description says it is pre-loaded with the Duemilanove bootloader. I tried programming the chip only to get an error. Mine was actually using the UNO bootloader, and when I tried that it works flawlessly.

Great product. I would recommend to the seller to include the breadboard for another $2 so it is ready to go upon delivery.

Everything you need for a basic Ardunio,

Purchased because I was too lazy to source all the part I need for my project. The ATmega328 came programed with the boot loader. Hook the my circuit on a small breadboard and download a program using my Uno as the ISP. Worked first shoot, no problems at all.

great product for the right price

Being an Arduino enthusiast this product is the perfect product for the price. The picture shows a breadboard which is not part of this. However if you’re even looking at this product you probably already have a breadboard so that is no issue.

There are clear instructions for assembly online as well as a simple tutorial to get you started right away. If you were like me I need to simplify the Arduino footprint on your bread board this is a product to have.

    Neat product, Great Support
I have purchased several Bareduino’s. My son and I have had lots of fun assembling them and using them. With a perfboard (not included) you can build a rather useful portable computer that runs on common batteries.

    Barebones Arduino

A fully functional arduino that’s perfect for prototyping or permanent install. You will need an arduino board or other programmer to write code onto the chip but it is a very easy process. Came with all components listed and works like a treat!
